Shucks Tavern – Las Vegas
Well, tough one. I was resistant to try this place for several years because it struck me as a corporate owned, large chain style restaurant, and I am more prone to attend and promote small local businesses owned by individuals, after all corporate chains have more access to capital and therefore promotions. But after going to this Shucks Tavern in Las Vegas, I don’t care who owns it, this place is awesome. When the first round of oysters came out, we were so excited, we forgot to take pictures. The ceviche loaded oysters were nothing short of masterful. We ordered several other oyster types, but i encourage you to go on your own and try them all, they were all great.
We then ordered more food, and everything was excellent. Clams, Lobster Fingers and Poke and not one morsel was left after we were done. Took all self control not to lick the plates lol. However, there are lots of great places to get food in Las Vegas, so the food alone isn’t enough to warrant 5 stars. Here are a few other things.
Attentive staff. I mean when our beers were down to 1/4th left there was someone there offering another, or an interesting recommendation, for what would go great with the next course in the meal. Friendly, attentive but not intrusive. Its a very subtle nuance that is difficult to master, the two guys helping us were great.
Decor, design and comfort. We sat there for 3 to 4 hours, and felt cool, comfortable, happy as a clam, pun intended. Many chairs and tables are designed for about an hours worth of comfort, but three hours in, and we were set to stay another 3. If you have read my reviews in the past, you know I am big on lighting. Being a bit sensitive to poor lighting, I specifically avoid places that I otherwise like due to the lighting, but Shucks tavern has it dialed in just right.
I encourage everyone to try this place, hopefully you love it as much as I do and that you go back often as i plan to do, and that encourages the owners to open more. It really is that good. I usually end my reviews with some type of advice for the management, to improve things, but in this case, I got nothing, other than to just keep doing what you’re doing, and thank you for doing so.
